More Up-to-date and More Efficient

SIEB & MEYER: Frequency converter SD2M replaces series FC71

After almost two decades SIEB & MEYER ceases the production of the successful frequency converter FC71. The reason: The product range of the Lueneburg-based company includes the highly modern multilevel frequency converter SD2M which provides more power at lower system costs.

"The frequency converters of series FC71 can look back on a true success story," Torsten Blankenburg, CTO at SIEB & MEYER AG, explains. "However, from a technological point of view, they are somewhat outdated and in the meantime we have introduced more efficient alternatives to the market." Thanks to its controlled sinusoidal output filter FC71 set new standards in high-speed aluminum volume cutting – in this field low motor losses and a high drive performance are particularly important.

The frequency converter SD2M is a worthy successor to FC71: The three-level technology and switching frequencies of up to 16 kHz ensure a very good current quality, which reduces motor losses and increases the overall efficiency. This prevents excessive rotor heating and reduces the load on the bearings as well as insulation stress. Thanks to the frequency converter, customers can do without expensive LC filters or use smaller, cost-saving motor chokes instead. The frequency converter SD2M is designed for output powers up to 432 kVA and rotating field frequencies up to 2,000 Hz. "Regardless of whether the frequency converter needs to be replaced in an existing system or is required for re-equipment of a machine –SD2M provides our customers with an efficient alternative to FC71," Blankenburg concludes.
