At the electrical automation trade fair in Nuremberg SIEB & MEYER presents the frequency converter SD2S with two additional, sensorless operating modes allowing for high-speed (HS) operation of asynchronous and synchronous machines with lowest possible motor heating.
The compact drive amplifiers of the series SD2S can operate synchronous and asynchronous motors with speeds up to 600,000 rpm without significant heating of sensitive motor components. With both of the new sensorless drive functions the Lueneburg based specialist for control systems, drive and feed-in technology succeeds in optimizing HS operation additionally: The now available sensorless control for HS asynchronous motors is easily parameterized on the basis of a V/f characteristic curve in the frequency range of 2,000 Hz. Thereby the focus on operation with lowest possible motor heating was maintained. Converters can be adapted to the motor by suitable parameterization to achieve optimum operating performance and protection of the motor. The corresponding operating mode selected in the SD2S software allows easy programming of the voltage/frequency characteristic curve which makes the device configuration for retrofit and individual projects much more comfortable.
The second new feature developed by SIEB & MEYER – a sensorless vector control (SVC) for operation of HS synchronous motors/generators in the frequency range of 2,000 Hz – is especially designed for synchronous machines. This technology used in HS motors and generators provides for better dynamics and more robustness against rapid or greater load changes. In addition the Lueneburg based company optimized the generator operating performance. Thus, the upgraded SD2S converters qualify for applications like turbo compressors or turbine systems for generating electricity in cogeneration units (CHP). Especially technologies in the sector of renewable energies require efficient drive solutions with respect to amortization of the investment and profitable operation. The new feature of the SD2S devices allows for four-quadrant operation. In addition this technology is exactly suited to motor start and generator-driven operation of ORC systems (Organic Rankine Cycle) or micro gas turbines.
By upgrading the SD2S SIEB & MEYER responds to application-specific customer requirements.
